the material is correspondingly prepared without
quite rapidly. For emcient results therefore, lu
bricants obviating this have been much desired. recourse to complicated procedure or interference

certain glycyl oxy-hydrogen compounds present
remarkable resistance against such deterioration
and afford usage in conditions otherwise not
satisfactorily met.

To the accomplishment of the foregoing and
related ends,‘ the invention, then, comprises the
features hereinafter fully described, and particu
larly pointed out in the claims, the following de

scription and the contained data setting forth in
16 detail certain illustrative embodiments of the in
vention, these being indicative however, of but a
few of the various ways in which the principle of
the invention may be employed.
In accordance with the invention, an oil having
lubricating viscosity, and a small proportion of a

glycyl compound are mixed together, the latter
.compound being of the general formula NR.
H2NC.HzC0.R’(OH)n, in which R. is a hydrocar
bon radical and R’(OH)n a polyhydroxy benzene
25 in which there are at least Zhydroxyls and in 1,2
position. The oil may be a petroleum oil of vis
cosity for instance 48 to 200 Saybolt Universal at
210° F.

Representative of the glycyl compounds are ni
30 trogen-alkyl glycyl polyhydroxy benzenes, nitro
gen-cyclopara?in glycyl polyhydroxybenzenes, ni
trogen-alkaryl glycyl polyhydroxybenzenes, ni
trogen aryl glycyl polyhydroxybenzenes, and for
instance nitrogen-o-tolyl-glycyl-1,2-dihydroxy
benzene, nitrogen-m-cyclo-glycyl-1,2-dihydroxy
benzene, nitrogen-p-isopropyl-phenyl-glycyl-1,2
dihydroxybenzene, nitrogen-me'thyi-glycyl-1,2-di

nitrogen-cyclohexyl-glycyl-1,2
Saybolt Universal at 100° F., there is incorporated
0.01 per cent of nitrogen-para-tolyl-glycyl-1,2
dihydroxybenzene.

As another example: Similary with a stock
having lubricating viscosity there is incorporated
- nitrogen-cyc1ohexyl-glycyl-1,2-dihydroxybenzene.
As another example: Similary with a stock
having lubricating viscosity there is incorporated 15'
nitrogen-benzyl-glycyl-1,2-dihydroxyben2ene.
Other modes of applying the principle of the
invention may be employed, change being made
as regards the details described, provided the
features stated in any of the following claims, or 20
the quivalent of such, be employed.
We therefore particularly point out and dis
tinctly‘claim as our invention:---

l. A lubricant comprising an oil having lubri
cating viscosity and a small proportion of a com 25
pound of general formula NR.H2NCH2CO.R' (OH) 5
in which R is a hydrocarbon radical and R’ (0H) 11
a polyhydroixy benzene in which there are at least
2 hydroxyls and in 1,2 position.

2. A lubricant comprising an oil having lubri
cating viscosity and a small proportion of a ni
there are at least 2 hydroxyls and in 1,2 position.
3. A lubricant comprising an oil having lubri
cating viscosity and a small proportion of a ni 35
trogen - cyclopara?in - glycyl-polyhydroxybenzene
in which there are at least 2 hydroxyls and in 1,2 position.

4. A lubricant comprising an oil having a lubri
cating viscosity and a small proportion of a nitro
cyl- 1,2 -dihydroxyb enzene, nitrogen-o-tolyl-glycylr
gen-aryl-glycyl-polyhydroxybenzene
1,2,3-trihydroxybenzene,
nitrogen-m-cyclo-gly
cyl -1,2,3- trihydroxybenzene,
nitrogen - cyclo
hexyl-glycyl-1,2,3-trihydroxybenzene, nitrogen-p
tertiary-butyl-glycyl-1,2,3-trihydroxybenzene, ni
trogen -p- isopropyl - phenyl — glycyl -1,2,3-trihy
droxybenzene, mtrogen-benzyl-glycyl-1,2,3-trihy
