RAZOR s'rnor HOLDER,‘
Adcus Bryant Wilson, Oxford, N. 0‘.
Application December 4, 1936, Serial No. 114,237
4 Claims.
This invention relates to certain new and use
ful improvements in a razor strop holder'in the
form of a casing in which a razor strop is mount
ed in such a manner that it can be drawn out
(Cl. 51-202)
razor strop holder constructed in accordance with
my invention;
wardly to be used and when released, will be re
turned into the casing so as to protect it from
plan view:
dirt, dust and moisture.
ure 2; and
‘
Another object of my invention is to provide a
razor strop holder with a spring-actuated drum
10 for redrawing the strop back into the holder when
released, the strop having'its inner end connected
to a guide member in order to guide the strop in
its movement back and forth into the casing, the
forward end of the guide being provided with an
offset to receive the guide member in order to
hold the strop in extended position so that it can
be used for stropping razors.
Another object of my invention is to provide a
razor strop- holder in the form of an open-ended
20 casing which is closed by a plug having a connec
tion with the outer end of the strop so that when
the strop is drawn out of the casing to be used
for stropping a razor and is released, the strop
will be returned into the casing irrespective of
25 what position the strop is in.
I am aware that prior to my invention strop
holders have been provided having a casing with
a slot through which the strop passes when it is
withdrawn from the casing, but in stropping a
30 razor the strop- is turned over from one side to
the other and in prior constructions it has been
necessary that the person stropping the razor
position the strop in respect to the slot of the eas
ing so that it can be drawn into the casing, while

'
Figure 4 is a detail enlarged longitudinal sec
tion through the open end of the casing showing
the guide member in locked position to hold the 10
strop in extended position so that it can be readily
used for stropping a razor.
‘
In the embodiment of my invention as herein
shown I indicates a casing which can be formed
of any suitable material having a closed end 2 15
and a conical open end 3. The casing carries
adjustable brackets 4 for securing the same to the
back of the ‘chair or wall or any other suitable
support.
'
r
The interior of the casing is provided with op
positely disposed guide slots 5 forming a guide
way in which are slidably mounted spaced pins
6 of a guide member ‘I which has connected to
its inner edge an apron 8 which in turn is fas
tened by pins 9 to a spring-actuated drum I0,
the tension of which can be adjusted by a screw l I.
A razor strop i2 is connected to the guide mem
ber l by a universal connection l3 and the outer
end of the strop is secured within a slot of a plug
[4 by a screw l5, said plug being provided with a
conical portion I6 provided with a soft rubber
gasket IT adapted to cooperate with the conical
open end 3 of the casing to form an air-tight joint.
The plug has a handle [8 pivotally connected
With my invention the cross sectional area of the thereto which can be grasped by the operator so 35
open end of the casing is greater than the width as to pull the strop out of the casing in position
of the strop so that when the strop is released, 7 to be used for stropping a razor.
The forward ends of the guide grooves 5 are
it will be returned into the casing irrespective of
o?fset as shown at 19 and adapted to receive‘ the
what position the strop is in,
Another object of my invention is to provide a forward set of pins 6 of the guide member ‘I as
40
razor strop holder which is exceedingly simple and shown in Figure 4 in order to hold the strop
cheap in construction, the same being provided against the tension of the spring-actuated drum
with adjustable brackets for attaching the same and in such a position that a razor can be readily
to a wall or to the back of a barber chair, the
F open end being closed by a plug having a soft
rubber'gasket so as to form an air-tight joint in
order to thoroughly protect the strop within the
casing.
Other and further objects and advantages of
the invention will be hereinafter set forth and the
novel features thereof de?ned by the appended
claims.
In the drawing,
7
Figure 1 is a longitudinal section through a
stropped.
'
The casing is preferably provided with a per 45
forated receptacle 20 which is adapted to contain
a disinfectant in order to sterilize the strop, the
disinfectant used being of such a nature that it
will not injure the material‘ from which’ the strop
is formed.
’
In order to hold the apron 8 taut on the spring
actuated drum 10, the apron passes under a roller
22 as clearly shown in Figures 1 and 3. This
provides means for guiding the apron as it is
wound and unwound from the spring-actuated 55

drum. By having the handle I 8 connected to the
plug M by a hinge joint, the strop can be readily
turned over.
'
In the operation of a strop holder as herein
shown and described when it is desired to strop
a razor, the handle is grasped by pulling outwardly
on the same and the strop is withdrawn from the
casing, the pins of the guide plug when it reaches
the limit of outward movement ride up into the
10 offset portions of the guideway so as to hold the
strop extended against the action of the spring
the free end of said strop for closing the outer end
of said casing.
2. A razor strop holder comprising a casing pro
vided with oppositely disposed guide grooves ter
minating at the forward end in o?set portions, a
guide member provided With guide pins slidably
mounted within said grooves, the forward guide
pins being adapted to cooperate with the o?set
portions of said grooves, a spring~actuated drum
carrying an apron having a connection with said 10
actuated drum and the strop can be used in the
guide member, a strop having a universal connec
tion with said guide member, a plug having a
ordinary manner, ?rst one side and then the other
being used and after the razor has been stropped
15 and it is desired to return the same within the
conical portion carried by the free end of said
strop cooperating with the open end of said casing
casing, it is only necessary to draw downwardly
in order to displace the pin 6 of the guide member
from the offset portion l9 and the strop will be
returned into the casing by the spring-actuated
20 drum irrespective of what position the strop is in.
While I have shown the offset portion extending
upwardly, it is, of course, understood that these
offset portions could extend downwardly without
departing from the spirit of my invention.
plug.
25
By having the open end of the casing conical
in shape and having the outer end of the strop
provided with a plug having a conical portion,
the plug is guided back into the casing so as to
form an air-tight joint.
30
What I claim is:
1. A razor strop holder comprising an open
ended casing, said casing being provided with a
guideway having an offset adjacent the free end
of said casing, a guide member provided with
35 guide pins working in said guideway, a spring
for closing the same and a handle carried by said
3. A razor strop holder comprising a casing
having a conical shaped open end, a strop mount
ed within said casing, a guide member slidably
mounted within said casing having a universal
connection with said strop, a spring-actuated
drum having a connection with said guide mem
ber, a plug carried by the free end of said strop
having a conical portion for closing the outer end
of said casing and means for holding said guide
member adjacent the open end of said casing
against the tension of said spring.
4. A razor strop holder comprising a casing
provided with an open end, said casing having a
longitudinally disposed guideway provided with
an offset portion at one end, a guide member
mounted in said guideway, a pin carried by said
guide member cooperating with said offset por
tion for holding said strop in extended position,
the strop having a universal connection with said
actuated drum having a connection with said
guide member, a spring-actuated drum having a
guide member, a strop having a universal con
nection with said guide member, pins in said
guide member being adapted to cooperate with
the offset of said guideway and a plug carried by
connection with said guide member, and a plug
carried by the free end of said strop for closing
the outer end of said casing.
