NONRE‘FILLABLE BOTTLE

‘ 6 Claims.
This‘invention relates to certain new and use
ful improvements in ‘non-re?llable bottles.
The primary object of the invention is to pro
vide‘a non-re?llable bottle wherein a ‘tensi’oned
bottle closure plug is carried by a bottle cap with
the cap having interlocking connection with a
frangible ?ange on‘the neck of the bottle, the
cap when in position on the bottle ‘being pre
vented from removal therefrom by the introduc
no ,-tion of the plug into the bottle neck which pre
vents separation of the interlocking connection
between the cap and bottle neck and necessitates
‘ ‘ the breaking of the frangible ?ange on the bottle
‘neck‘to permit removal of the cap'and thereby
destroying‘ the bottle neck.
With the above and other objects in view that
will become apparent as the nature of the inven
tion is better understood, the same consists in
the novel form, combination and arrangement of
parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in
the accompanying drawing and claimed.

A closure cap iii of cup~form is closed at its
outer end as at ll while the inner end thereof is
open as at l8.
A coil spring l?'is con?ned with- ‘
in the cap 16, one end of the spring l9 being se~
cured to the inner face of the closed end ll of
the cap while the other end of the spring is se
cured to a plunger or plug ZQ‘that normally pro~
jects below the open end N3 of the cap. The plug
20 isof less diameter than the internal diameter’
of the cap 16 and at the upper end thereof that
is attached to the adjacent end of'the spring IQ
there is formed an annular ?ange 2i moving in
frictional contact with the inner wall of the
cap it‘. As' shown more ‘clearly in Figures 3, 5,
and 6, a pair of diametrically opposite lugs ‘2E2
depend from the lower open end it of the cap,
the lugs being outwardly offset as illustrated with
the inner faces 23 thereof in‘the plane of the in
ner wall of the cap it, a groove Ell being formed
in the inner face of each lug 22 at the inner side 20
23 thereof.

engagement with the sealing disk; and
Figure 6 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional

Referring more in detail to the accompanying
drawing, the reference character Ii] designates a
bottle, preferably formed of glass and having a
reduced neck H carrying at the open mouth end
thereof a relatively thin outwardly directed fran

pressure on the cap it causes the plug 20 to be
moved upwardly into the cap and the cap lowered
onto the bottle neck and in a position to cause
engagement of the open end it at one side of 35

with the bottle neck ?ange l2. Lateral sliding
movement of the bottle cap causes the grooves 23
in the lugs 22 to receive the bottle neck ?ange 23 40
and when the cap it has been moved completely
in longitudinal alignment with the opening in
the bottle neck, the spring l9 will force the plug
20 downwardly into the bottle neck for engage
ment with the sealing disk 55. In this position,
the spring pressed plug 20 prevents separation of
the interlocking connection between the frangible
?ange I2 on the bottle neck and the grooved lugs
22 on the cap It. To open-the bottle, it is neces
sary to forcibly move the cap into engagement 50
with an object or to percussively strike the cap
to cause the latter to break the frangible ?ange
I? on the bottle neck and to destroy the inter
locking connection between the bottle neck ?ange

From the above detailed description of the in
vention, it is believed that the construction and

I claim:
1._ In a non-re?llable bottle, a bottle having a
relatively thin outwardly directed annular fran
gible ?ange at the mouth thereof, a sealing disk
seated in the neck of the bottle below the frangi
ble ?ange, a cap adapted for interlocking and

sioned plug carried by the cap for reception in
the neck of the bottle below the ?ange of the
bottle neck for engagement with the sealing disk,
and means carried by the cap for engagement
20 with the neck ?ange and prevented from sep
aration from the plug by the position of the plug
in the bottle neck.
2. In a non-re?llable bottle, a bottle having
a relatively thin outwardly directed annular
25 frangible ?ange at the mouth thereof, a sealing
bottle neck for engagement with the sealing disk,
means carried by the cap for engagement with
the neck ?ange and prevented from separation
from the plug by the position of the plug in the 10
bottle neck, said means including diametrically
opposite lugs carried by the cap and said lugs
being grooved at their inner sides for reception
of the bottle neck ?ange, said plug being in the
plane of the connection between the frangible 15
?ange and cap.
5. In a non-re?llable bottle, a bottle having a
relatively thin outwardly directed annular fran
gible ?ange at the mouth thereof, a sealing disk
seated in the neck of the bottle below the fran 20
gible ?ange, a cap adapted for interlocking and
non-removable mounting on the bottle, a ten
sioned plug carried by the cap for reception in
the neck of the bottle below the ?ange of the bot
tle neck for engagement with the sealing disk, 25

seated in the neck of the bottle below the frangi~
ble ?ange, a cap adapted for interlocking and
non-removable mounting on the bottle, a ten
sioned plug carried by the cap for reception in
the neck of the bottle below the ?ange of the
bottle neck for engagement with the sealing disk,
means carried by the cap for engagement with
the neck ?ange and prevented from separation

bottle neck, said plug being in the plane of the
connection between the frangible ?ange and cap.
4. In a non-re?llable bottle, a bottle having a
relatively thin outwardly directed annular fran
cap to permit lateral alinement of the ?ange en
gaging means on the cap with said ?ange where
by the cap is laterally moved into closing posi
tion on the bottle neck.
6. In a non-re?llable bottle, a bottle having
a relatively thin outwardly directed annular fran- I
gible ?ange at the mouth thereof, a sealing disk
seated in the neck of the bottle below the fran
gible ?ange, a cap adapted for interlocking and
non-removable mounting on the bottle, a ten
sioned plug carried by the cap for reception in .40
the neck of the bottle below the ?ange of the
bottle neck for engagement with the sealing disk,
means carried by the cap for engagement .with
the neck ?ange and prevented from separation
from the plug by the position of the plug in the .45
bottle neck, said means including diametrically
opposite lugs carried by the cap and said lugs
being grooved at their inner sides for reception of
the bottle neck ?ange, said plug being movable
into the cap to permit lateral alinement of the
?ange engaging means on the cap with said
?ange whereby the cap is laterally moved into
closing position on the bottle neck.
