This invention relates to building structures,
and more particularly to face-work building
structures, and has for an object the provision
of new and improved structures of this character.
In the drawing accompanying this specifica
tion and forming a part of this application, I
face of the intermediate portion I4, and a shank

which may be of lead. The wedge part 20 and

and contraction under varying conditions.

As shown in Figures 1 through 4 of the draw
30 ing, the invention comprises a building struc
ture, wherein a plurality of facing panels I0 are
disposed edge to edge and flatwise along the sur
face of a supporting wall II, which may be .the

The intermediate portion I4 of the member

Each of the sets of securing means I2 is adapt
ed to secure juxtaposed edges of a pair of the
panels I D to the supporting wall II. The panels
IIJ are formed for cooperation with the securing
means i2, each of the panels I0 comprising a
rectangular, channel-shaped formation having
an intermediate portion 28, an angular web 29
extending along one edge of the portion 28, and
an angular web`3ll extending along the opposite
edge of the portion 28, and the web v29 has `.an
out-turned marginal flange 3I adapted to bel
clamped between the clamping member `26 and
the outer face of the intermediate portion I4 of
the member I3, while the web 30 has an out
turned marginal flange 32 adapted to be clamped
between the clamping member 26 and the outer
face of the intermediate portion I4 of the mem
ber I3.
Installation of the face-work structure is pref
erably elîected by first securing a plurality of the
members I3 vertically and in spaced relation
along the supporting wall II, through the me
dium of the anchoring members I'I, the members
I3 being spaced apart a distance corresponding
to the width of the panels it is desired to use.` 50
The marginal ñanges 3| and 32 of adjacent pan
els I0 are then inserted between the clamping
members 26 and the adjacent outer face of the
intermediate portion I4 of the member I3, and the
actuating screw members 25 adjusted by a suit

able tool to clamp the marginal flanges 3| and 32
in position. After all of the clamping members
2B have been adjusted, the space between the
webs 29 and 39 of the secured panels I0, may be
filled with a suitable ñlling material, indicated
at 33, the heads I9 and 21 of the securing screws
providing key means therefor, and in turn being
held by said ñlling material against accidental
loosening. Although the securing members I3
are shown and described as secured vertically
along the supporting wall II, it will be under
stood that these members may be disposed hori
zontally, and the panels I0 secured thereto, or,
if desired, the securing members I3 may be ar
15 ranged both vertically and horizontally to present
rectangular formations to which all four edges
of the panels I9 may be secured, the panels I0 in
this latter case ofcourse having all four edges
formed as heretofore described to cooperate with
20 the securing means.
Referring to Figures 5 and 6, a somewhat dif
ferent embodiment of the invention is disclosed,
comprising elongated securing members 34, each
having an intermediate portion 35 and ñanges
25 36, the intermediate portion 35 being secured at
intervals to the supporting wall 31 by anchoring
members I'lû identical to the anchoring members
I'I heretofore described. A plurality of securing
means are provided, each comprising an actuat
30 ing screw 38 and clamping member 39, identical
to the actuating screw 25 and clamping members
26, heretofore described, except that each of the
clamping members 39 is somewhat longer than
the members 26 for cooperation with panels 49 of
35 a peculiar type.
Each of the panels 40 has angular webs‘4l and
42 at oppositeV edges, the web 4I having an in
turned flange 43, and the web 42 having an in
turned flange 44, the flanges 43 and 44 being
40 adapted to rest against the outer face of the
lintermediate portion 35 of the member 34. 'I‘he
webs 4I and 42 of adjoining panels are each pro
vided at intervals corresponding to the locations
of the securing means, with longitudinally ex
tending slots 45 adapted for the reception of the
ends of the clamping members 39, the slots 45
being of suflicient length to permit the clamping
members 39 to be rotated about the axis of the
actuating screw 38 to facilitate engagement of
50 the clamping members 39 with the slots 45, and
when the actuating screws 38 are screwed home,
the panels 40 are clamped to the securing mem
bers 34. After the panels 49 are in position,
suitable ñlling material, indicated at 46, is em
55 ployed to fill the cracks between the adjoining
" edges of the panels.
It will be apparent to those skilled in the art
that I have accomplished at least the principal
object of my invention, and it also will be ap
parent to those skilled in the art that the embodi
ments herein described may be variously changed
and modified, without departing from the spirit
of the invention, and that the invention is capable
of uses and has advantages not herein specifically
described; hence it will be appreciated that the
herein disclosed embodiments are illustrative only, 10
and that my invention is not limited thereto.
I claim:
1. A building structure of the character de
scribed, comprising: a support; a plurality of fac
ing members, each having an intermediate por 15
tion, an angular web portion, and a marginal
flange portion, said facing members being ar
ranged with respect to said support so as to pre
sent the angular webs thereof in juxtaposed
spaced relation, each of the angular webs having
a slot therein; hollow channel-shaped securing
means flxedly connected to said support, having
-ilange portions adapted to rest against said sup
port, and having its web disposed outwardly with
respect to said support, and against which said 25
facing members are adapted to bear; and a hold
ing device, having means insertable into the slots
of the webs of the facing members to hold the
same in position with respect to said support,
and connecting means extending between said 30
facing members, said securing means and said
connecting means being constructed and arranged
to render said holding device quickly attachable
detachable as an entirety with respect to said se
curing means.
2. A building structure of the character de

scribed, comprising: a support; a plurality of fac
ing members, each having an intermediate por
tion, an angular web portion, and` a marginal
fiange portion, said facing members being ar
ranged with respect to said support so as to pre
sent the angular webs thereof in juxtaposed
spaced relation, each of the angular webs having
a slot therein; hollow channel-shaped securing
means ñxedly connected to said support, having
flange portions adapted to rest against said sup
port, and having its web disposed outwardly with
respect to said support, and against which the
said facing members are adapted to bear; and

holding means, comprising a screw threaded into 50
the web of said securing means, and carrying a
clamping element engageable Within the slots in
said webs to hold the facing members in position
with respect to said support.
