(Cl. 21M-6.45) This invention relates to improvements in make-up boxes, and more particularly to make up boxes having light-means and a mirror in rouge, compact and eyebrow pencil. Or, instead of the foregoing materials, it may be provided with loose powder and a powder puff. conjunction therewith. F One object of this invention is to provide an i’ improved make-up box having a mirror and light supplying means in conjunction therewith, the light-supplying means being connected to an elec tric cable extending outside the box for connec tion to a power line. Another object of this invention is to provide an improved make-up box having a mirror in conjunction therewith, and power-supplied light means with ventilation-means to avoid excessive rise of temperature adjacent the light-means. Another object of this invention is to provide an improved make-up box formed of simple ele ments readily manufactured and readily assem bled to produce an attractive construction at minimum cost. 20 With the above and other objects in View, as will appear to those skilled in the art from the present disclosure, this invention includes all features in the said disclosure which are novel over the prior art. 25 In the accompanying drawing, in which one way of carrying out the invention is shown for illustrative purposes: ~ Fig. l is a side elevation with the cover in open position of a make-up box constructed in accord 30 ance with this invention; Fig. 2 is an end view of the make-up box shown in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a top- plan view of the make-up box shown in Figs. 1 and 2; ‘35 The box I0 preferably has supporting-feet I4 which raise the under-side of the box above the 5 level of the surface upon which the box rests. The illumination compartment II preferably has a plurality of ventilation holes or openings I5 through the bottom of the compartment, and also has integrally-molded bracket-locating ribs I6 10 and light-tr‘ansmission-plate supporting-ribs Il and a cable-entrance hole or passage I8. The end-wall I9 of the box I0, which also forms one wall of the illumination compartment ||, is pro vided with a hinge-construction 20, at which is hinged a cover 2| having the inner surface pro vided with a mirror or formed with a mirror surface 22. An electric socket or light-bulb socket 23 has a threaded shank 24 extending through and fas- 20 tened to an upstanding arm-portion 25 of an L shaped bracket 26 by means of a nut 21 threaded on the screw-threaded shank 24. The lower or horizontal arm-portion 28 of the bracket 2E is located between the bracket-locating ribs I6 and 25 secured firmly in place by means of the screw 29 which extends through the bottom 3|] of the il lumination compartment. A light-bulb 3| is de tachably screw-threaded in thev socket in a usual manner. An electric cable 32 extends through 30 the hole I8 and supplies electric power to the light-socket from any suitable power-supply, such as the usual household lighting current. A light-transmission plate 33 of general rec tangular form rests upon the supporting-ribs I'I, Fig. 3; but preferably has a loose ñt in the compartment to provide air-exit ventilation around the lateral of Fig. 3; and has a large hole or opening 34 which serves both Fig. 4 is a transverse section on- line 4--4 of Fig. 5 is a longitudinal section on line 5-5 Fig. 6 is a longitudinal sectional view on line 40 6-6 of Fig. 3. In the description and claims, the various parts are identified by speciñc names for convenience, but they are intended to be as generic in their application as the prior art will permit. 4 Ul Referring to the drawing, the make-up box I0 preferably has an illumination compartment || and a cosmetic compartment |2. The make up box I0 is preferably formed of any suitable 50 molded composition material and preferably has an integrally-molded partition I3 to form the separation wall between the compartments || and I2. The cosmetic compartment I2 may contain any 55 suitable cosmetics such, for example, as lipstick, 5 edges of the plate. The plate 33 also preferably O to provide air-exit ventilation and also to pro vide for the passage therethrough of a switch operating threaded-shank 35 carrying a switch button 36 for operation by rotation. The light transmission plate 33 may be made of glass or 45 any suitable light-transmitting material and preferably is made to have a translucent or ground-glass effect to constitute light-diiîusion means for the light coming from the electric bulb 3|. The electric bulb 3| in actual practice 50 has been found satisfactory when consuming seven watts of current. However, this amount of power tends to cause a substantial amount of heat which, if completely trapped in the il lumination compartment, would tend to unduly 55 2 2,117,097 raise the temperature thereof with risk of injury to the compartment or adjacent parts. By providing air-ventilation means, as shown, whereby air can pass beneath the box I0 by vir tue of the bottom thereof being spaced by means of the supporting-feet I4 above the supporting surface on which the box rests, air can pass upwardly through the ventilation-holes l5 in the bottom 30 of the illumination compartment, ab jacent the hinge of said hinged cover and in cluding: an electric light-bulb socket; an electric power-cable connected to said socket and ex tending through a hole in said box and designed and adapted to be connected to an electric-power connection exterior of said box; a light-trans i mission plate at the top of said compartment and overlying said socket and provided With a hole; a sorb heat generated by the light-bulb, and thence switch-operating member extending through said proceed upwardly through the hole 34 in the light-v hole, said hole being also adapted to air-exit ven transmission plate 33, and also around the edges .,tilation; and ventilation air-entrance means be of the loosely-ñtting light-transmission plate.33, low said plate. 2.
