DISH HOLDING TRAY‘ 0R BASKET
Joseph Edward Manley, St. Louis, Mo.
Application May 11, 1936, Serial No. 79,203
2 Claims.
(01. 141-9)
This invention relates ‘to trays for holding
member 1 has one side fully open and located in
the member 1 are brackets l3 to which certain of
the stud bolts 3 are threaded. The ‘member 8
ing and has for the primary object the pro-_ has the other stud bolts threaded thereto. Re
5 vision of a simple and inexpensive device of this ceived in the openings of the members 5, 6, 1
character which will permit free circulation of and 8 are rods l4 certain of which are arranged
either water or air therethrough and about the at right angles to the others. The rods are ar
dishes supportedthereby, said dishes being sup
ranged in three groups, one group carried by
ported against breakage.
the members 5 and 6 and the other two groups
With these and other objects in View, this carried by the members 1 and 8. The pair of 10
invention consists in certain novel features of groups of rods are arranged in superimposed re
dishes and which may be employed in a dish
washing machine or may be used for dish drain
construction, combination and arrangement of
parts to be hereinafter more fully described and
claimed.

'
For a complete understanding of my invention,
reference is to be had to the following descrip
tion and accompanying drawings, in which
Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating a
tray constructed in accordance with my inven
20 tion.
Figure 2 is a plan view showing the outer frame
of the tray.
' Figure 3 is a plan view showing the inner frame
of the tray and certain bars thereof partly re
moved therefrom.
<
Figure 4 is a view showing one of the sides of
the inner frame.
Figure 5 is a View showing another side of the
inner frame.
‘
Figure 6 is a sectional view taken on the line
6-—6 of Figure 1.
Figure '7 is a sectional view taken on the line
'I—-‘| of Figure 1.
Referring in detail to the drawings, the nu
meral l indicates an outer frame of substantially
rectangular shape having secured to opposite
walls thereof ?nger grips 2. The other pair of
walls of the frame I are apertured to receive set
bolts 3 for detachably securing in the frame I
40 an inner frame 4. The lower edges of the outer
frame have formed thereon inwardly extending
?anges 5’ forming rests for the inner frame 4.
The inner frame 4 consists of connected members
5, 6, 1 and 8, which when inserted in the outer
45 frame I engage with the ?anges 5' and friction
ally contact the walls of the frame I. The mem
bers 5 and 6 are opposed and the member 5 is
of hollow formation and. has formed therein
spaced openings 9 aligning with openings l0
50 formed in the member 6.
The member 6 is of
channeled formation closed by walls of the outer
frame. The members 1 and 8 are opposed and
the member 8 is of hollow formation and one
wall thereof is provided with openings ll align
The
55 ing with openings l2 in the member 1.
lation above the rods carried by the members 5
and 6. The arrangement of the rods permits
dishes to be stood on edge within the tray so
that water may circulate about said dishes when 15
the device is used in a washing machine or when '
used for draining dishes air may freely circulate
about said dishes.
'
When the inner frame is removed from the
outer frame the members 5 andB will permit the
rods to be readily removed in an endwise direc
tion. ‘The members ‘I and 8 are approximately
the same height as the walls of the outer frame,
while the members 5 and 6 are of a less height
than the walls of theouter frame. ,
25
The members or sides 5 and 8 are fashioned
with folded sections 511' and 8a respectively over
lying the respective outer faces thereof and said
folded sections engage the ends of the respective
rods [4 whereby to align the respective opposite
ends of the rods to permit insertion thereof to
gether with the inner frame 4 within the outer
frame I. The set bolts 3 serve to detachably
secure the frames together to form a unitary
device.
A brace l5 of channel formation rests upon
certain of the ?anges 5' and is apertured to per
mit the rods of the members 5 and 6 to extend
therethrough. The rods of the members 5 and 6
bear the weight of the dishes placed in the tray.
Having described the invention, I claim:
1. A device of the character described, com
prising, an outer frame, an inner frame detach
ably mounted in said outer frame, said inner
frame having pairs of oppositely disposed sides,
one pair fashioned with apertures, groups of hori
zontally extending spaced rods supported in said
apertures one group above the other in spaced
relation, another pair fashioned with apertures
subjacent the lowermost group of said rods, spaced
rods journaled in said last mentioned apertures
and extending across said frame subjacent said
lowermost group of rods and at right angles
thereto whereby to support the weight of dishes
and the like between and laterally engaged by 55
2

said ?rst mentioned groups of rods, one of the tioned apertures and extending across said frame
sides of each pair formed with a folded section subjacent said lowermost group of rods and at
overlying the respective outer face thereof and ' right angles thereto whereby to support the
engaging ends of the respective rods whereby to weight of dishes and the like between and lat
align the respective opposite ends of the rods to ' erally engaged by said ?rst mentioned groups of Cl
permit insertion thereof together with said inner rods, one of the sides of each pair formed with a
folded section overlying the respective outer face
frame within said outer frame, and means de
tachably connecting said frames together to form thereof and engaging ends of the respective rods
a unitary device.
whereby to align the respective opposite ends of
the rods to permit insertion thereof together with 10
2. A device of the character described, com
prising, an outer frame, an inner frame detach
said inner frame within said outer frame, the
ably mounted in said outer frame, said inner other sides fashioned with channeled sections for
frame having pairs of oppositely disposed sides, receiving the opposite ends of the respective rods
one pair‘ fashioned with apertures, groups of to permit the same to be manually grasped for
15
horizontally extending spaced rods supported in
withdrawal from said inner frame, and means de
said apertures one group above the other in
tachably connecting said frames together to form
spaced relation, another pair fashioned with
apertures subjacent the lowermost group of said
rods, spaced rods journaled in said last men
a unitary device.
