This invention relates, generally, to Jacquard
looms, and the invention has reference, more
particularly, to a novelchange motion mecha
‘i nism for Jacquard looms.

frames or battens having a plurality of superim
posed shuttles fcr carrying weft bobbins having
threads of differing colors, such as the well
known Fletcher type. of Jacquard label loom
made by the Fletcher Works of Philadelphia,
and disclosed in Patent 786,237,_dated_Mar. 28,`

The loom motor 3 >drives a‘gear 4 ñxed on a
shaft 5 having a bevel gear 6 fixed thereon
which latter gear meshes with a similar bevel
gear 1 ñxed on a Vertical drive shaft 8, whereby
the drive shaft 8 is' driven from motor 3. A bevel
gear 9 is fixed on drive shaft 8 and drives a bevel
gear I 0 having a spur gear II` secured thereto,
which latter gear meshes'with a toothed wheel
crank I 2 forrotating 'thel latter. Wheel-crank
I2 carries a crank pin I4 to which is pivotally 50
connected one end of a connecting rod I5,` the
other end of which is pivotally'connected to a
stud I6 projecting from a driving slide or mem
ber _l1 that is longitudinally movable within a

box I8 is shown as having a longitudinal slot or
opening 20 in its front wall to accommodate the
projecting stud I6 of slide I1 and connecting rod
I5. ’I'he slide I1 is illustrated as having a for

In order to effect movement of the driven slide

ten, the driven slide is provided with a forwardly
projecting stud or pin 23 that is adapted to enter
a slot 24 provided in the right end portion of
the driving slide I1, so 'that `when the driving
slide overtakes the driven slide while moving to
ward the right the slot 24 engaging pin 23 also
serves .to positively drive slide 22 to the right to
elevate the hatten.
In order to move the driven slide toward the
left in the figures, a latch "3'4has' one end there
of pivoted upon a stud 36 projecting from the
side of lift cam 2-5, the other end of this latch
45 being arranged to engage against a `projection
or stop 31 provided on the'top of driving -slide I1.
Latch 34 has an operating pin 38 projecting
therefrom to be engaged by a lifting lever 39 piv
oted at one end at '40 on the guide'box I8 and
50 having its other end connected to» the lower end
of an upwardly extending link 4I that' has its
upper end connected to a lever 42.
Lever 42 is pivoted at 43 upon the machine
frame and is arranged to rest upon a plate cam 44

In use, let -it be assumed that the motor 3 is
movement of projection l31 (see Fig. 2) resulting
in slide I1 acting through this latch to drive
the driven slide 22 `toward the left into the dot
dash position of Fig. 1, the roller 29 thereby 30
being caused to roll down the camming surface
21 of the lift cam and effecting the lowering of
the batteri and the weaving of a filling color or
thread, i. e. the color vgiving the desired design
to the fabric. Continued reciprocation of the
driving slide causes similar movement of the
driven slide, the >latter being driven toward the
right by the coaction of slot 24 and pin 23 and
toward the left by the action of latch 34, there
by alternately raising and lowering the ‘hatten to
accommodate the movements >of the superim
posed shuttles to the shed of the warp.
When the cards have run their cycle, the
proper pair of cords 49 or 50 are pulled by the
jacquard mechanism, thereby turning cam plate
44 so that a high point moves under lever 42,
thereby raising lat-ch 34 and stopping the alter
nate raising and lowering of the batteri 2, the
latter being left, however, in raised position as
is desired owing to the coaction of slot 24 with 50
pin 23 to move the driven slide 22 to ¿its right
hand limit of travel before stopping the move
ment of this slide, in which position the lower
shuttle or line of shuttles carrying thev ground
