M ATTORNEY. 2,129,141 Patented Sept. 6, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,129,147 APPAREL APPARATUS Morris Lazow, Brooklyn, N. Y. Application May '7, 1937, Serial No. 141,319 4 Claims. (Cl. 38—102) which extend outwardly substantially the full This invention relates to improvements in ap which may be easily and quickly applied to the garment and which will securely hold the legs width of the trousers. This rod is bent back upon itself to form the rectangle and is secured to the wires l4 adjacent to the point I 5 by means of welding or otherwise. The two outer rods 2|] of the portion H desir ably terminate at the point 2! where they are se of the trousers in a neat and creased condition cured by means of welding or otherwise to a sub parel apparatus and relates more speci?cally to a combined trouser hanger and stretcher. It is one of the objects of the present inven ,1 tion to provide an improved trouser stretcher while at the same time, a?ording suf?cient longi '1 tudinal tension to remove wrinkles in the trousers and prevent same from getting out of shape. Another object of the invention is the provision of an improved trouser stretcherwhich may be readily adjusted to trousers of different lengths ‘.and widths and which will keep the trousers in such a condition as to largely remove the need for pressing same by the application of a hot iron or the like. Yet another object of the invention is the pro 1- vision of an improved trouser stretcher consist ing of an extensible frame having a trouser crotch engaging portion at one end thereof and suitable trouser cult engaging clips at the opposite end, which device will support the trousers longitudi nally as well as transversely, thereby'preserving the shape of the garment over a considerable period of time. Still another object of the in vention is to provide a trouser stretcher having improved clips for engaging the cuff portion of the trousers on the inside only, thereby eliminat ing any possibility of leaving marks upon the material. In the drawing, Fig. 1 is a plan view of the preferred embodi ment of the invention; Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a side elevation of one of the trouser cult-engaging clips; and Fig. 4 is a plan view of a pair of trousers sup ported by the device, a portion of the trousers being broken away. The presentlypreferred embodiment of the in vention comprises an elongated frame having a pair of extensible members l0 and II, which members are constructed from a plurality of spaced rods [2. The member H is shown as comprising four of such rods which are substan tially equally spaced from each other. The two central rods M are bent diagonally outwardly at l5 to provide supports 16 for a substantially rec tangular member formed from a rod which is curved at H, which provides the trouser crotch engaging portion. Adjacent to the curved portion I‘! on each side thereof are straight portions l8 stantially U-shaped rod 22, which forms a trans verse support for the four parallel rods. The 10 terminals of the rod 22 are secured at 23 to the transverse portion 24 of the rod which consti tutes the trouser crotch-engaging portion_ The portion l0 likewise comprises a plurality of longitudinal rods which are desirably mounted in spaced relation in the arrangement shown. The two outer rods 21 are bent outwardly begin ning at the points 23 and are welded at their ter minals to a transverse rod 29, which is inwardly bent at 3B and is provided with a ring 3B at the center which carries a supporting hook 32. Each terminal of the rod 30 is substantially U-shaped, which U-shaped portion is provided with an elon gated base 33 and relatively shorter sides 34. The base portion 33 supports a clip 31 which is adapted to be secured to the cuff portions of the trousers, which clip is provided with a set screw 36 to enable the clip to be adjusted on the base portion to trousers of varying widths. The two central rods 38 are secured at their outer ter minals to a transverse rod 39 which, along with another transverse rod 40, maintains the four rods constituting portion ID in their spaced posi tion. A side elevation of one form of clip is illus 35 trated in Fig. 3, which clip includes a pair of spaced ?nger-engaging portions 42, having jaw portions 43 at their lower end. Finger-engaging - portions are maintained in spaced relationship by means of a compression spring 44. Each clip is mounted on the elongated base portion 33, which base portion is of somewhat greater length than the width of the clip. Accordingly, the clip is mounted for longitudinal movement upon the base portion and may be secured in the desired place by means of a set screw 46. At the inner terminal of the portion I0 a trans verse bar 50 is positioned, said bar having a plu~ rality of transverse apertures 5| into which the terminals of the several rods are positioned and maintained therein by means of set screws 52. The transverse bar 50 is further provided with additional apertures 53 through which the bars constituting the portion H pass, said apertures 53 being of sufficient size to permit free longi 55 2,129,147 made from a plurality of rods mounted in spaced tudinal movement of the bars constituting the portion I l. The inner terminal of the portion H relationship, one of the members having a curved portion at the outer end thereof adapted to en gage the crotch portion of a pair of trousers be tween the leg portions thereof, the other of said members having means at its outer end for de tachably securing the cuff portions of the trou is likewise provided with a transverse bar 55 hav ing transverse apertures 56 through which the bars constituting the portion in pass, and addi tional apertures in which the terminals of the bars constituting the portion II are positioned sers, said means comprising a transverse bar wherein they are secured by means of set screws 51. Thus, the frame may be lengthened or short ened and when the desired length of the ex provided with a substantially U-shaped portion tensible structure is attained, the two portions each U-shaped portion. at each terminal thereof and a clip mounted on 3. In an apparel apparatus, the combination are secured against movement relative to each , of an elongated frame comprising a plurality of other by means of set screws 60. To use‘the de extensible members, each of the members being vice, the entire structure is placed between the 15 legs of the trousers and the curved portion I'l‘is" .made from a plurality of rods mounted in spaced positioned in engagement with the crotch por—_.. relationship, one of the members having a curved tion of the trousers. The clips at the opposite portion at the outer end thereof adapted to en gage the crotch portion of a pair of trousers be end of the structure are then secured to the in side of the cover portion of the trousersbas, tween the leg portions thereof, the other of said members having a transverse bar at its outer end, said . bar extending beyond the edges of the manually extended until the'trousers are su?i frame, a trouser cuff engaging clip slidably ciently taut to remove any creases or wrinkles therein. Set screws 60 are now tightened and mounted on each terminal portion of said bar the entire structure hung by means of the and means for securing each of said clips in any 20 shown in Fig. 4, and the extensible structure is 25 hook 32. _ - What I claim is: 1. In an apparel apparatus, the combination of an elongated frame comprising a plurality of substantially flat extensible members made from 30 a plurality of elongated rods mounted in spaced relation, one of the members having a concavely curved portion at the outer end thereof adapted to engage the crotch portion of a pair of trousers between the leg portions thereof, the other of 35 said ?at members being of su?icient width to engage a substantial portion of the Width of the lower portion of the trousers, and being provided with means at its outer end for detachably secur ing the cuff portions of the trousers. I 2. In an apparel apparatus, the combination of an elongated frame comprising a plurality of extensible members, each of the members being - desired location on said terminal portion. Ni 4. In an apparel apparatus, the combination of an elongated frame comprising a plurality of ex tensible members, each of the members being made from a plurality of rods mounted in spaced relationship, one of the members having a curved portion at the outer end thereof adapted to en gage the crotch portion of a pair of trousers be tween the leg portions thereof, the other of said members having a plurality of trouser cuff en gaging clips mounted at the outer end thereof, the inner terminals of said extensible members being provided with a transverse bar having a plurality of apertures through which the rods constituting the opposite members pass, and means for securing the extensible members in fixed relationship.
