(or. ‘66-86)
This invention relates to a method of produc
‘ ing transversely ribbed warp fabric by means -
of two lapping machines on a warp loom having
only one row of needles, and constitutes an im-'
.,
f
threads 2 in the lower machine. The upper ma
chine laps a ground fabric which in the example
shown has the form of a simple tricot lap; The
lower machine places the thread 2 under three

to the left in the ?rst course, in, the second course
under three again but to the right and in the
The purpose of the method covered by this
patent is to produce ribbed warp.goods on a
frame having only ,one row of needles by work
10 ing two sets of threads, one of which forms the
usual ground fabric whichis then ribbed by the
second thread group. The warp fabric produced
under the mentioned patent differs from ribbed
third course under three but to the left again.
In the fourth course the lower machine operates
under two to the right and over one to the left
I goods made'on machines having two rows of, nee
15 dies by being transversely ribbed.
,
' According to the mentioned patent, the lower
lapping ‘machine operating the ‘second thread
and in the ?fth course under one and over one
to the right. In the sixth course the thread 2 of 10
the lower machine is not racked laterally, where
upon the cycle starts again, so that the mode
of racking of the lower machine is repeated every
six rows.
'
vOn the left of the diagram the ?gures i to 6 15
designate the courses. It is important that the
group carries out only underlaying operations to ' lower machine in the courses I toil is racked in
the same direction as the upper machine, but op
posite to it in course 5. In the fourth and ?fth
20 direction as the upper machine and in the oppo
. site direction thereto. It has been found, how courses the threads 2 form meshes which are‘ 0
laid over ‘the needles, which brings about the de
ever,_ that goods made in ,this. manner are rela
" tively thin for thereason that‘the threads of the sired ?lling of the fabric vto such an extent that
lower- lapping machine ~form only loose loops the threads of the lower machine need not be -
form ribsby being alternately racked in the same
25 which extend through .the fabric formed by the
threads’ of the upper machine. Such goods are
therefore not suited -for all'purposes.
,
The invention aims at eliminating this draw
back by causing ‘the lower machine to carry out
overlaying operations when it'is racked in a di
.
rection opposite to theupper‘ machine. In‘ this way the threads of the lower machine
will partly help to form loops to ?ll the goods
_ ‘without appreciably interfering with the forma
drawn in completely for ?let work but only partly
as for instance one half.

It is to be remarked that for lapping ma
chines the one which is the lower machine is the
one to which‘ the needles are applied when the
‘lapping machines are on the side'where the fabric
is removed from the ‘needles.

. I claim:—‘
-1. A method of producing transversely ribbed
warp fabric by meansvof two lapping machines
35 tion of ribs which, as has been ascertained, are on a war'p loomhaving only one row of needles,
produced chie?y by the alternate racking of the ' comprising lapping a ground fabric with the 35
lower machine once in the same direction as the , upper machine and carrying out underlayingrop
‘upper one and then again in a direction opposite erations with the lower machine, thelower ma

necessary to retain the underlying operations of
the lower machine, in which case of course an
. overlay _)could be put in also.

‘By way of example-the invention is illustrated

lower machine has the threads arranged for ?let.
work.

As in- the mentioned patent, the threads i are
