Accordingly, the chief object of my invention is
to obtain the above results while at the same time

so that several of these packages may be shipped
and handled in an outer container or carton such
as is disclosed, for example, in my co-pending

Another feature of my present invention is to
provide a carton for packaging articles without
the use of expensive packaging machinery such
machine operation with little or no waste of ma
terial between the blanks. This feature is of ex
treme importance in machine operation since in 25
many cases the loss in waste of material in form- .
ing many of the known carton blanks approxi
mates 25% of the board used.
The blank is divided into a bottom Ill and‘
front and back walls, ‘H and I! by means of
transverse score lines l3 and II. As will be noted
from» an inspection of Fig. 1, score line I3 does not
extend across the width of the package. The
side walls I! of the carton or. package are at
tached to the back wall I2 along score lines t6.
‘To maintain the carton or package in its ?nished
form I have provided endlocking ?aps i1 and i8
attached to the front and back walls H and I!
along score lines is and 20'. Each of these end
locking ?aps is provided with a diagonally posi
tion cut 23 cut away as at 2| to provide a notch.
Afte the desired bottled goods are positioned in .
the package or carton the end ?aps are overlapped
and held in position by means of the interengage
a as stapling ‘or sewing units, my package being ‘ 'ment of the cuts 23, the interlocking thereof being 45
self-supporting without so much as a sealing strip facilitated by the notched portions.v If desired, a

that it may be made from a substantially rectang

When the carton blank is folded into form these
tabs are bent along score lines 21 and serve to
retain the side walls in position.
I
The front wall I l is provided with ?anges 28
attached thereto along score lines 29. As will
be noted from an inspection of Fig. 1, these score
lines diverge from the outer end of the wall to
the bottom so that the?anges 28 will ?t within
the con?nes of the box when’ the cover is closed.
10
The outer edges of these ?anges are ‘separated
from partition members 30 by means of cuts 3|
and cuts 32 which terminate at the juncture of
score line l3 and cut 33. The front wall may
be provided with a mutilatable panel 38 gener
ally rectangular in shape and de?ned by score
lines 39. If desired a panel of transparent ma
terial may be secured to therback face of the
front wall by adhesive or other securing means
so as to provide a display face when the mutilat
ing the front wall of the blank to de?ne a panel
which may be removed by the retailer. This
panel,v when removed, will open to view the labels
on the bottles, and since the package is readily
adapted to be stood on end, the advertising of the
goods may be accomplished without the necessity
of supplying to the retailer additional advertis
ing devices.
I '_
As will be evident to those skilled in the art,
my invention admits of various modi?cations 10
without departing from the spirit thereof, and it
is to be understood that the invention is not
to be limited as set forth in the appended claims
which are broadly to be construed.
I claim:
