Application November 18, 1937, Serial No. 175,222

(ci. z-,-4z)
The object of this invention is to provide a .
brassière in which novel means are employed to
exert a converging upward pull on the breasts
of the wearer, this being accomplished by yield
5 ingly supporting the-right -breast from the left
shoulder and the left breast from the right shoul
der; means being employed to adjust accurately
this yielding converging upward pull on the
breasts.
A practical embodiment of this invention is
represented in the> accompanying drawing,> in
which
'
e
'
Fig. 1 represents a front view of the brassière
15
as in use;
Fig. 2 represents a back view of the same; and
Fig. 3 represents a detail section _on an en
larged scale along one of the shoulder straps,
taken in the plane of the line III-¿III of Fig. 1.
The brassière comprises two breast portions
20 I and 2, generally oval in contour and perma
nently connected at the front of the brassière.
'I‘hese two breast portions respectively terminate
in tapered side portions 3 and 4 which extend
partly across the back of the wearer. The ends
25 of these tapered side portions are provided with
elastic straps 5 and 6, adapted to be removably
connected, as, for instance, by providing the free
end of one strap with a hook 1, and the free end
30
of the other strap with a loop 8, adapted?to re
ceive the said hook.
-
'
i
Left and right adjustable shoulder straps 9 and
I0 lead respectively upward from the ends of
the tapered side portions 3 and 4 at the back of
35
the brassière over the left and right shoulders of
the wearer, thence diagonally downward and in
ward in sliding engagement with the tops of their
corresponding fulled breast portions, as, for ln
stance, through adjacent slits I I and I2 respec-`
tively, and _from thence across each other into
40 the bottom hems I3 and I4 respectively of their
opposite breast portions, the left shoulder strap
9 extending a distance along within the right
- bottom hem I4, and the right shoulder strap I Il
extending a distance along within the left bottom
hem I3. The lower front ends of these shoulder
straps are provided with elastic portions I5_and
I6 respectively, located and freely extensible
within the bottom hems I3 and I4,_ to allow the '
shoulder straps to yield somewhat under strain.
50
The remaining portions of the shoulder straps
are preferably of inelastic material. The free
ends of the elastic portions I5 and I6 of thev
shoulder straps are suitably anchored Within their
respective bottom hems, to permit the yielding
of the shoulder straps as above described.
`
»
The adjustability of the shoulder straps may
be accomplished by providing sliding buckles I1
and I8 and eyes I 9 and 2li, through which eyes
the hook portions 2| and 22 of the shoulder straps
pass.
'
6
To ensure the proper positioning oi the bras
sière, supplementary straps 23 and 24 extend,
respectively, _from the top hems 25 and 26 of
the breast portions upwardly to the shoulder
straps 9 and I0, preferably at points above the 10
means for adjusting the shoulder straps. 'I‘hese
supplementary straps are preferably made of
inelastic material.
'
From the above description it will be seen that
both 'shoulder straps may be accurately adjusted 15
>so that a yielding converging upward pull on
the breasts of the wearer is accomplished.
It is evident that various changes may be re-`
sorted to in the construction, form and arrange
ment of the several parts without departing from 20
the spirit andv scope oi my invention, and hence
I do not intend to be limited to the particular
Iembodiment herein shown and described, but
What I claim is:
