1 Claim. (CI. 72—83)
This invention relates to new and useful im

of which the same is fastened to said base.
10
A still further object of the invention is to pro
vide a post base of material not subject to decay
when placed in the ground and means to secure
a post thereon in such a manner that it may be
renewed without disturbing the base when the ele
15 ments of nature shall have made it necessary to
install a new one.
With these and other objects in View that may
appear while the description proceeds the inven
tion consists in the novel construction and ar
rangement of parts as hereinafter more speci?cal
ly set forth, claimed and shown in the accompany
ing drawing forming part of this application and
in which—
.
Fig. 1 is an elevation of an improved post base
25 of circular cross section having part of a post
mounted thereon.
Fig. 2 is a perspective View of a rectangular base
showing a post mounted thereon.
Fig. 3 is an elevation of the post base con
30 structed for driving into a post hole.
Fig. 4 is a cross section on the line 4—4 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a cross section on the line 5—5 of Fig. 2.
Referring more in detail to the drawing in
which similar reference characters designate cor
35 responding parts throughout the several views it
will be seen the invention comprises a base Ill
which may be of circular cross~section as shown
in Figs. 1 and 3 or of rectangular cross section as
in Fig. 2, or of any other desired shape for any
40 particular purpose. The base will be constructed
used on the end of a pile for construction pur
poses such as wharves, bridges, breakwaters and
the like when the pile is to be driven to a ?rm
footing, the cement and iron combined base to be
a little longer than the distance from ?rm foot
ing to the water line at high tide and is con
structed with a conical or pointed end I5. The
reinforcing member l4 therein is likewise pointed
as at [6 and extends well into the point of the 15
base to strengthen the same.
The base shown in Fig. 2 is of rectangular sec—
tion having a circular projection I l and is de
signed more particularly for use on a gate post
and the like.
The post is secured thereon in
the usual manner and is designed to conform to
the shape and size of the said base. While a T
shaped iron reinforcing member is shown in this
base it is understood any other convenient shape
of reinforcing member may be used.
-
From the foregoing it will be seen I have pro
vided a base for a post that may be varied in
design to suit various purposes. The base when
once set in the ground may be let in position per
manently and a new post installed thereon should
the same become damaged or decayed.
It is believed that the construction and ad
vantages of the structure shown may be apparent
from the foregoing paragraghs taken in conjunc
tion with the accompanying drawing without 35
further detailed description.
While the preferred embodiment of the inven
tion has been disclosed it is understood that minor
changes in the details of construction, combina
tion and arrangement of co-operating parts may
of prescribed proportions, depending upon the use , be resorted to within the scope of what is claimed
of which it is to be employed. The upper pro
