Carl‘ E.Clarice; Lienhard, Los. Angeles, 'C‘alifgxf} - Re?ledl for ‘abandoned, application SerialNo.‘ 93,441, ‘July 30,’ 1936. ‘This ‘application July” ‘ > 22, 1938; Serial Noizzoaee ‘ ' . h 3‘ Claims. (01. 240-,i-7c) I drawing, generally comprises an outlet box ’I_ hav V ‘This invention relates to and has for an‘ ob ing a threadedrsocket or extension '2, an adapter ject thereof the‘provision of alight ?xture where in a bowl, globe or reflector is secured in'pla‘cejin and ?xture clamp'ingplatetlan attaching hub 4_ such manner as to comprise an e?ectivemoisture formed integral with said plate and threadedly proof ‘and dust proof enclosure "for a light bulb , and removably engaged with‘ said extension, a 5 and its socket.’ This application: is ‘a duplicate ' light bulb socket 5 held in place 'byfand'forminga seal between‘ said hub‘ and outlet ‘box, a clamping and sealing ring _ l3 opposed‘ to ‘said plate" and‘ Another objectiof‘the invention is to provide “threaded on'said hub, a‘globe‘for .bowl ‘I, and ‘a of, and is 're'?led for?abandoned application Serial Number 93,441, ?led July 30, 1936. ' , means 8 for detachably securing said bowl to said 10 a light ?xture which is constructed and arranged to greatly facilitate the installation thereof in» plate and for forming a seal there-between. The outlet box is adapted to be setup on one ' a wall‘or ceiling or like support and to permit of side (the interior)‘ of a wall or ceiling as indicated a ready and easy changing of the bowl and light bulb whereby, after installation, bowls and bulbs ' at A in ‘Figure’ 1, and the wires, not shown, vare connected with thesocket 5 which is cemented'in of various sizes may be applied as desired. A further object is to provide a novel and e?i cient means for sealing the ?xture for preventing moisture and dust from entering the interior On oppositesides of this ?ange are gaskets llirrespectively engaged with a?ange I? on the outlet boxvand' the upper or inner end of the hub 4. Thus when the hub is I An additional object is to provide a light ?xture screwed up, it clamps the socket 5 in place so as which may be readily and easily assembled and , to form a moisture and dustproof seal between thereof. 20 a. holder 9 having a ?ange Ill. . _ . disassembled, which provides a novel socket struc~ ‘ ‘the hub and outlet box.‘ The outer shell l3 of ture and ‘means for securing same in place; which, the, socket 5'is screwed up on the threaded body includes an ef?cient means of detachably se- . of the socket proper and a gasketlll provides a 25 curing together a bowlsupporting and adapter > moistureproof sealand non-chipping joint of the plate toan outlet-boxer condulet and also in .cludes an ef?cacious ‘means for, clamping and. porcelain parts of the socket. , '> . V The ring 6 is placed ‘on the inner side of the holding the ?xture to .a wall or ceiling orother . wall sothatfwhen the hubv is screwed in place it threads through said ring andthereby causes the support. “ r ' - v; ~ _ 30 With the above and otherobjects in view the ~ ring toclamp the gasket i5 against the innerv ' invention subsists in the novel method and come side of the wall. Likewise, as the j hub 4 is bination of parts hereinafter described, illustrat ed inthe accompanying’ drawing, and set forth in the claims hereto appended, it being under 35 stood that various changes in formapr'oportion, size and minor details of construction within the screwed into the'outletbox, the‘plate 3 is ‘forced againstthe wallas shown ‘in Figure 1. With the ‘?xture, thus assembled, 'it’will be seen‘ that the 30 ' ' light socket 5 liespartly inthe outlet box and partly in‘ the hub in'position to receive the ‘light, scope. of the claims may be ‘resorted to without ' bulb screwed‘ in place therein in the usual man- . ' '7 It is important to note thatTthe-entire unit The present embodiment of the light ?xture ' comprising the globe or bowl'l, means 8, plate 3 ‘and hub 4, while assembled may be removed by 55 55 of this invention, as seenin the accompanying 2 2,137,106 bodily turning the globe to unscrew the hub 4 from the threaded extension 2 of the outlet box. This will facilitate changing the adapter plate 3 whereby to provide for larger or smaller light bulbs’ and bowls as desired. However the bowl may in some instances, de pending on the size of the light bulb, have to be removed from'the plate 3 before unscrewing the hub 4 and this can be readily accomplished by 10 removing the fastenings 22. It will be .noted that all joints of the ?xture are gasketed and arranged'to provide effective moisture and dustproofseals. It should also be noted that with this ?xture no fastening screws or the like are required to secure the bowl supporting plate in place. The V fastening means therefor is not visible when the ?xture is assembled whereby to improve the ap pearance of the ?xture as a whole and provide for an easier installation and removal thereof. I claim: ' r ' 1. In a light ?xture, an outlet box adapted to be placed on one side of a wall or ceiling, a threaded extension on said box, a clamping and 25 adapter plate adapted to engage the other side of. the wall or ceiling, a hub integral with said ‘plate and threadedly engaged with said extension, a light socket held in place by and between said extension and hub and extending into the latter, a bowl and means for securing said bowl to said plate and a clamping ring threaded on said hub and adapted to clamp against the wall or ceiling. '2. In a light ?xture, an outlet box, a threaded extension on said box, a ?ange in said extension, a clamping and adapter plate, means on said plate for securing a bowl in sealed engagement therewith, a hub formed integral with said plate and having threaded engagement with said ex tension, a light bulb socket in said hub, a holder 10 to which said’ socket is secured and which is clamped between the upper end of the hub and said ?ange and a clamping ring threaded on said hub and being opposed to said plate. 3. In a light ?xture, an outlet box, a threaded 15 extension on said box, a ?ange in said extension, a clamping and adapter plate, means on said plate for securing a bowl in sealed engagement therewith, a hub formed integral with said plate and having threaded engagement with said ex tension, a light bulb socket in said hub, a holder to which said socket is secured and which is clamped between the upper, end of the hub and said ?ange and a clamping ring threaded on said hub and being opposed to said plate, said plate 25 and bowl therein being detachablev as a unit upon unscrewing said hub from said extension.
