SAWy HANDLE
Aaron Davies and Elmer Smith, Bakel', Orcg.;
Grace Davies administratrix of said Aaron
Davies, deceased
Application November 17, 1943, Serial No. 510,688
2 Claims.
Our invention relates to- crosscut saws, and
has among its o-bjects and advantages the pro
vision of an improved detachable handle embody
ing novel means whereby the handle may be
easily and quickly attached to or detached from
the saw, with the construction such that the
change may be made with mittened hands.
In the accompanying drawing:

Figure 1 is a face view of one end of a conven
tional crosscut saw illustrating the handle ap
plied thereto.

the line 2-2 of Figure l.

the condition of the handle latch preparatory
to connection of the handle with the saw, and

48, and a compression spring 'l0 is interposed be
tween the ball 64 and the plug 68. This body is
provided with air and moisture vents 12.
In operation, the spring ‘I0 normally holds the
latch pin 54 in the position of Figure 3 when
the handle is detached from the saw. At this
time, the pin 54 is restrained from outward move
' men-t beyond the position shown, with the ball
64 projecting partly across the slot 46.
How
10 ever, the tapered end 6B lies to one side of the
slot 46 so that the end of the saw blade Il) may
be inserted in the slot and pressed therein
against the tensioned ball. As the bal1 64 is
brought into the opening I2 in the Saw blade I0,
the latch pin 54 is correctly aligned with the
opening I2 so that the latch pin may be pressed
through the opening to the position of Figure 2.
The wing nurl 28 is then tightened which clamps
the handle bar Iii firmly between the bodies I8
