4 Claims. (\Cl, 5-17)
The present invention relates to a divan pull and
spring positioning bracket, and especially to a member
attachable to a movable frame in a divan, sofa, or the
like, and which member is adapted to be adjustably se~
cured to the divan movable frame for engaging and posi
tioning spring, or cushion members on the movable frame
part of the divan.
Divaus, or other articles with which the bracket of the
invention would be used usually have a movable portion
therein that, for example, can be moved from a posi
tion for seating support action to a position for sleeping
the upwardly directed ?ange for receiving a member to
slidably secure the bracket means to the divan movable
frame, pull means secured to the upwardly directed ?ange,
a headed rivet extending through the slot and slidably
securing the bracket means to the front rail of the divan
frame, and a bolt means engaging and adjustably extend
ing between the dependent lea of the bracket means and
part of the frame for adjusting the position of the brack~
et means on the front rail whereby the flange on the
bracket means can engage a spring member on the mov
able frame to prevent forward movement thereof.
Having particular reference now to the details of the
structure shown in the drawings, a divan, or sofa-bed
of the type to which the present invention relates is
indicated as a whole by the numeral 1. This divan may
be of any conventional construction. The divan 1 is
shown as including a stationary frame 2 that has a slid
use.

The general object of the present invention is to pro

such bracket is characterized by its controlled, but ad

1 also may provide suitable bolster means or back
cushions 5 thereon and the function of the movable frame
3 is to move the spring members a from a retracted posi
justable, engagement with a movable frame member of
the divan.
Another object of the invention is to provide a bracket

means is provided with a pull member for convenient
engagement with the bracket and the associated divan

the downwardly extending ?ange 8 of the bracket means.
A nut 16 is shown secured to this downwardly extending
directed ?ange at one end and an upwardly directed
?ange at its opposite end, said center section having a
?ange 8 to engage the bolt 15 whereby the bracket means
6 can be adjusted in its position on the movable frame
3 by rotation of the bolt 15 to move the bracket means
6 normally to the frontrail 12.
The divan 1 of the invention is shown with a suitable
through said slot to slidably secure said bracket means
to said front member, a bolt means engaging and ex
longitudinally extending slot therein with an enlarged
end adjacent said upwardly directed ?ange, a headed
member positioned in the front member and extending
tending between said dependent leg and said downwardly
directed ?ange to control and adjust the position of said
stabilizer or movement control unit therein such as has
been shown in previous U.S. Patent No. 2,786,212. How
ever, it will be realized that any desired type of move 10 bracket means on said front rail, said upwardly directed
flange engaging said cushion means on said movable
ment control means may be associated with the movable
frame to prevent forward movement thereof, and a pull
means engaging said upwardly directed bracket.
3. In combination, a divan including a stationary
frame 3 for controlling its position on the stationary
frame 1 of the divan.
By use of the keyhole slot 10 and rivet 11, the bracket
means 6 can readily be attached to the divan frame at
the point of use as the head of the rivet will pass through
the slot head 10a, but not through the rest of the slot.
If the bracket means is attached permanently to the divan
frame 3, then any suitable slide means may secure the
bracket assembly to such frame.
The cushion means 4 may be retained against rearward
frame and a movable frame slidably carried on said
stationary frame, a cushion means carried by said mov
able frame, said movable frame having a front member
with a dependent leg, a bracket means including a metal
strap with a ?at center section and having a downwardly
20 directed ?ange at one end and an upwardly directed ?ange
at its opposite end, means slidably securing said bracket
means to said front member, handle means secured to
movement in any suitable manner.
said upwardly directed ?ange and a bolt means engaging
From the foregoing, it will be seen that a relatively
uncomplicated bracket means has been provided and that
this bracket means can be adjustably secured to a mem

wardly directed ?ange to control and adjust the position
of said bracket means on said front rail, said upwardly
directed ?ange being adapted to engage cushion means

divan-sofa construction, as desired. The bracket means
will position cushioning means in the assembly and will
