In operation, with cable C and ?tting F located directly
beneath the hammer point 16, and with the parts arranged
as shown, valve 38 is opened to permit air under pressure
to ?ow to the top of cylinder 4 and valve 34 is opened to 55
permit air to exhaust to atmosphere therethrough. The
air is permitted to accumulate in the space provided by
piston opposite its piston rod for holding its collar engag
