Sue Dill Calloway, RN, MSN, JD is a nurse attorney and medical legal consultant in Dublin, OH. She has been a
medical legal consultant for more than 25 years. She has presented many educational programs for nurses, physicians,
and other health care providers. Some of the topics include: nursing law, HIPAA medical record confidentiality, Joint
Commission issues, CMS issues, medication/medical errors, documentation, pain management, federal laws for
nursing, patient safety, and other similar topics.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
1. Discuss why hospitals that receive reimbursement for Medicare patients must follow the CMS Conditions of
Participation on grievances.
2. Identify CMS grievance regulations, including the requirement to have a grievance committee.
3. Describe why the hospital board must approve the grievance policy and procedure.
4. Explain why, in most cases, the patient must be provided with a written notice that includes the steps taken to
investigate the grievance, the results, and the date of completion.
