How to Use CPD Online
Log-On Process
1. Go to the AOA website at http://www.aoa.org.au
2. Click on Member Services link and select CPD in the drop down menu.

Selecting CPD programs
3. Click on CPD 2013 Onwards to navigate to the 2013 onwards CPD program. For more
information, please download the Guide to CPD for Orthopaedic Surgeons on the left hand
side Quick Links.
4. Click on CPD 2010 - 2012 to navigate to the old program. The old rules still apply for this
program. For more information, please download the CPD Manual on the left hand side Quick
Links. The due date for CPD activity for 2012 was due 28 February 2013.

2013 CPD Program
5. Log-on with your username and password.
The default username is your membership number. The default password is your initials plus
your 6-digit date of birth (e.g. jb310745).

Operating Status
6. Confirm your operating status.
7. Click on Save.
2013 CPD Program Information
8. To download the Guide to CPD for Orthopaedic Surgeons, click on the CPD Handbook tab.
9. To download information about the Personal CPD Plan including the Personal CPD Plan
template, click on the Personal CPD Plan tab.
10. To download the Frequently Asked Questions document, click on Help and then FAQs.
If you are unable to download any of the documents, please check that your popup blocker
has been turned off.

Navigating between years
11, 12 & 13. The annual summary, individual sections summaries and adding an activity will
always default to whatever year it is in. To navigate to another year, click on the year drop
down and select the year you wish to view.

Submitting CPD Data - Operating Surgeon
Operating surgeons must fulfil the requirements for all four sections of the CPD program.
Submitting CPD Data - Non-operating Surgeon
Non-operating surgeons must fulfill the requirements of Section 3: Self-Directed Learning and
Section 4: Scientific Meetings and research.

Submitting CPD Data - Limited Practice
Orthopaedic surgeons working in limited practice capacity must fulfill reduced requirements
in Section 3: Self-Directed Learning and Section 4: Scientific Meetings and Research.
CPD 2010 - 2012
14. You can navigate to the 2010 - 2012 CPD program by clicking on CPD 2010-2012.
Note: You cannot copy CPD data from the old program to the new program as they are
seperate programs.

Selecting a Section
To access a Section either:
15. Click on one of the tabs on the left hand side of the page.
or
16. Click on one of the headings in the Summary table.
Entering CPD Activity
To enter an Activity:
17. Click on Add New Activity.

18. Record activity by selecting the CPD Year, Activity type and Subcategory, providing
further details, if required.
19. Activities listed in each section provide an indication of the number of points applicable to
each activity on either 'per hour' or 'per activity' basis. Enter in the hours according to the
estimated amount of time spent doing an activity.
Data may be entered as frequently as you like within the calendar year. All activities, with the
exception of meetings, may be averaged per month (e.g. estimate 2 hours per month = 24
months automatically logged for the year).
20. Upload any verification documents you may have for each activity. Refer to the Guide to
CPD for Orthopaedic Surgeons for more information regarding verification requirements for
each activity. Please note that this function is not compulsory.
21. Press Save.

22. Once an Activity has been recorded, it will appear on the Activity Summary.
23. The Completion Status bar will monitor your progress to compliance in each section.
When the progress bar shows 100% compliance for the year has been reached.
24a. To edit an activity, click on the Edit Activity link.
24b. To copy an activity, click on the Copy Activity link.
24c. To delete an activity, click on the Delete Activity link.
Entering Activity - Scientific Meetings
25. If you entered your AOA ID when registering for an AOA event, the CPD meeting
attendance points will be automatically allocated to your CPD online record after the meeting
concludes.

Entering Activity - Section 1: Surgical Audit & Peer Review (operating surgeons only)
26. For Surgical Audit & Peer Review, you can select Type A Activity and Type B Activity.
Type A Activity is a mandatory component of the CPD program for all operating surgeons.
Type B Activity is not compulsory and will not appear on the completion status bar.

Peer Review Verification Form (operating surgeons only)
27. Members are now required to complete the Peer Review Verification form online. All of
the sections in this activity must be completed before submitting. You are able to save a draft
of your activity and log back in and submit at a later date. Once this form is submitted it
cannot be changed.
28. Once the Peer Review Verification has been submitted, it will appear on the completion
status bar as 50% completed until it has been verified by the peer. Once it has been verified,
it will then show as 100% completed.

Summary Page
The CPD Home page reflects your progress towards compliance.
29. When the progress bar shows 100% compliance in all appropriate sections, click on CPD
Certificates to download your compliance certificate. You can save the certificate to your
computer or print a copy for your records.
Members are also able to download a CPD Activity Statement at any stage of completion.
This is also available via the CPD Certificates link.
Special Consideration
To apply for Special Consideration:
30. Click on Forms and select Special Consideration.

31. In order to apply for Special Consideration, fill out all of the sections of this form and click
Submit.
Someone from the AOA CPD team will review your request respond to you via email.
Updating Personal Details
32. You can change your practice type at any time by clicking on the Update Personal Details
link.
Members who do not want their CPD status shared with RACS may opt out of this
arrangement via this link.
Contact AOA
33. For further assistance, click on the Help link and then Contact AOA.

. Complete the form and click Submit. A member of the AOA CPD team will respond to the
query via email.
