The swim fin for subaquatic competitions, is cut-out in transverse
sections and its inner edges are fixed to the fin and the outer edges
are free. They can move through an angle of around 23 degrees with
regard to the axis of the fin. The length of the fin is greater than
the width of each section. When a single fin is used for both feet,
the width is much greater than the length, as in a whale fin. Its
front edge is thick and its back edge is thin and supple.

I - PRINCIPE C'est une palme dont la voilure est decoupee en plans
transversaux de telle sorte que l'allongement (rapport longueur sur
largeur) et l'angle d'incidence de chaque plan permettent le meilleur
rendement propulsif pour la plus faible resistance ru battenent, ce
oui permet des performances tres nettement superieures aux palmes
classiques.(queue des cetaces ou des thons)

Une palme en mouvement dans l'water utilise le principe des plans
porteurs
Un plan qui se deplace dans un liquide subit, de la part de celuici,
une resistance qui s'exerce perpendiculairement a la surface de ce
plan.
Cette resistance a deux composantes - l'une perpendiculaire a l'axe du
deplacement, c'est la portance - l'autre selon cet axe, c'est la
trainee.
C'est la portance qui est utilisee pour la propulsion, la trainee
etant dans ce cas une resistance parasite.
La portance d'un plan porteur augmente avec l'angle d'incidence du
plan et de l'axe du deplacement, jusqu'a une valeur de cet angle au
dela de laquelle elle chute bruspuement. C'est le phenomene du
decrochage.
Pour un angle donne, la portance est d'autant plus grande que l'aI
longement du plan (longueur sur largeur) est plus important.
La trainee est d'autant plus faible que l'angle d'incidence est plus
faible.
Un plan carre (L = 1) aurait sa meilleure portance P1 a un angle de
45, mais la trainee T1, serait egale a P1.
Un plan de meme surface, mais de longueur L; 2 1 aurait sa meilleu- re
portance P2, egale a celle du precedent, mais a tin angle d'envi- ron
23. La trainee T2 serait alors: T1 sin. 23 T1 x 0,391
T2 = = sin. 45 0,707
T2 = 0,55 T1
D'ou une econoisie de puissance de 45t. (fig 2 et 3)
Pour obtenir le meilleur rendement, on a donc interet a augmenter le
plus possible la largeur des palmes par rapport a leur longueur.
Cela est facile pour la palme unique utilisee "en dauphin" dans les
competitions de techniques subaquatiques.(fig. 4)
Dans le cas des palme. a chaque pied, il n'est pas possible de
depasser une langeur de 25 ci sans rendre le battement de pied
impossible.
Le systeme propose consiste a diviser transversalement la voilure de
la palie enttranches dont le bord proxieal est fixe par rapport a la
palie, tandis que l'autre bord est libre, de telle sorte eue
l'allon@ement de chaque tranche et leur angle d'incidence permettent
le meilleur rapport portance siir trainee, et ce sur toute la surface
de la palme. (fig. 1)

You can select "Full Text" to view the entire document.
5. For non-latin languages, (in most cases) full text translations
are available, you can toggle them on and off here.
You can also toggle the inline discovery translations between
English and their original language.
6. The pie chart icon will open a basic statistical breakdown of the
publication.
7. The sort icon allows you to sort the listed categories based on
the number of instances found.
Click to toggle between ascending and descending.
8. You can use the refine box to refine the discovered items in the
sections below.
Simply type what you are looking for, any items that do not match
will be temporarily hidden.

The specific items found are listed within the category headings.
Click the section header to open that section and view all the

If you click the checkbox all items in that section will be

The best thing to do is to experiment by opening the sections and

10. The main output window contains the publication full text (or part
thereof if selected).
11. The Tools section contains tools to help you navigate the
"discovered" (highlighted) items of interest.
The arrows and counter let you move through the highlighted items
in order.
12. Other tools include a "Preview" option [ [preview.png] ] and the
ability to mark the relative locations of highlighted items by
using the "Marker" option [ [marker.png] ].
Try these out to best understand how they work, and to discover if
they are of use to you.
13. Items selected from the menu on the left will be highlighted in
the main publication section (here in the middle of the screen).
Click them for further information and insights (including
chemical structure diagrams where available).
14. Please experiment with TextMine - you cannot make any permanent
changes or break anything and once your session is closed (you've
log out) all your activity is destroyed.
