COMPARATIVE APPRAISAL OF MOTIVATIONAL OBJECTS
AS THE WORK MOTIVATION DIAGNOSTICS INSTRUMENT
Ekaterina Strizhova
Postgraduate student,
National Research university Higher school of economics
Moscow, Russia
Idea
Basic assumption
Motivation could be diagnosed under specially designed conditions (in a wide
sense under experimental conditions) that will allow to take its specifics into
consideration.
The basis for our method is
Fehner’s approach focusing on the examinee’s ability to define stimuli.
Nuttin’s relational theory of behavior dynamics
Leontiev’s action theory
Stimuli materials
• 15+1 motivational objects
(Nutten, 2004)
stability, confidence in tomorrow;
promotion; status; interesting job,
opening opportunities for selfrealization; feeling of being useful to
others; work output; resignation;
avoidance
of
conflicts;
work
organization
and
optimization;
family welfare; vacancies; my
attainments
appreciation;
inspiration, taking pleasure in work;
professional
and
personal
development; respect from the
colleagues, + monies (awards,
bonuses, etc);
• Three bidimensional
graphic spaces
whose axes stand for the evaluation
scales, represented in the following
combinations: Importance and
Probability of Success; Progress and
Challenge;
Effort and Reason: External/Internal.

Primary data
• Time the participant spent working with the method
• Ranks (sequence of the motivational objects selection)
• Absolute evaluations: motivational objects (MO) projections on
each evaluation scale
before placing the monies’ object
after placing the monies’ object

• Relative evaluations of the motivational objects (MO) against each other
expressed by Euclid distances between them
after placing the monies’ object

Opportunities
1.Diagnostics of the specific of motivation dynamic after placing the “monies”
object (opportunities of non-material stimulation).
2.Prognosis
3.Diagnostics of cognitive styles on the bases of the decision making process
during the diagnostics procedure
1. To find Individual differences
2. To empirically investigate motivation space
3. To receive regression models of the basic motivation scales
